EK Style: Whirlwind Wedding

Job Interviews, First Dates, Meeting the Folks, you’d think events like this would be daunting to find a perfect outfit for, but these are a cake walk compared to finding a perfect wedding day ensemble. While it’s an honor to celebrate the union of two people in love, I get hives whenever a wedding invitation comes my way. What if I’m not dressy enough? What if no-one else goes all out? Is it season appropriate? Do I look good in it? All these questions circulate in my head. And I’m a guy! I was invited to two weddings mere weeks apart this month, and there are a few more in July and August as well.

For me I can throw on any ol’ suit and be fine, but for my ladies out there it’s a little harder. Does that mean that you have to spend a whole wedding budget to outfit yourself for this wedding season? Hardly. All you need is a few key pieces to alternate around to ensure that you’re looking your best for all these upcoming nuptials. And who knows, maybe you’ll land yourself a hot groomsman in the process! My girlfriend Emma and I were both invited to the same set of weddings this past June. Both were two completely different sets of guest and at different times. One being a day wedding, and the other, which happened two weeks later, an evening affair. Two weddings, two sets of parties, ONE dress.

The Madeline dress was not only the perfect canvas for her to dress up or dress down, but the linen jersey dress was also casual and comfortable enough for her to wear running around from one airport terminal to another. How many dresses in your wardrobe can you say that about?

DAYTIME

Since you’re a guest and don’t want to upstage the bride or the bridal party, keep it to flats during a day wedding. With the Madeline dress, it’s so pretty and summery, you don’t really need a lot goin’ on. Pick one major statement piece and keep everything else simple. This coral inspired Kenneth Jay Lane necklace is gorgeous, but any statement necklace will do. Add a simple cuff to complete the look. An oversized clutch is perfect for holding all the necessities as well as a few extra tissues for the ceremony.

EVENING

If you get an invitation for an evening wedding then by all means go out all out. People tend to be a little dressier to those events, but remember NEVER upstage the bride! The buttery yellow color of this dress acts almost like a neutral to any skin tones so add accessories with a lot of punch in the color department. A multi-colored high heel adds just the right amount of pizzaz to keep people talking (but in a good way)! To give the dress a different look, add a wide waist belt. An armful of mismatched but colorful bracelets compliment the color of the shoes. Put up your hair in a loose bun to show off shoulder grazing chandelier earrings in a vivid cerulean. Finish off the look with a boxy minaudiere.
